The research field of Aerosols & Fine Dust covers all activities related to solid and liquid particles on the micron scale. Projects range from the measurement of wind-blown dispersion from coal stockpiles and development of traffic concepts for the implementation of fine dust guidelines to optimisation of filters for the removal of water or oil droplets in pressurised air supplies. In all these applications, IUTA benefits from the long-standing expertise of its staff members and modern facilities for particle instrumentation, computational fluid dynamic simulations of particle laden gas flows, dispersion modelling and abatement strategies. Prof. Klaus G. Schmidt, the former scientific director of IUTA and former chair of the "Commission on Air pollution prevention of VDI and DIN" (KRdL) represents this field of research.
