The Faculty of Educational Sciences is made up of five institutes, which largely correspond to the main thematic areas of its work. With almost 50 professors, around 170 academic staff and just under 30 technical and administrative staff in total, the Faculty is one of the largest in Germany. Its research activities cover a wide range of disciplines and attract national and international attention in the various fields of educational research.
Within the UDE, the members of the Faculty have played important and leading roles in recent years in setting up the Interdisciplinary Center for Education Research (IZfB) and the Interdisciplinary Center for Integration and Migration Research (InZentIM). They are also involved in relevant projects in the UDE’s “Future of Urban Systems” and “Transformation of Contemporary Societies” main research areas. Through its regional engagement in research and knowledge transfer, the Faculty ensures that it is in tune with expectations and (educational reform) requirements in civil society, politics and public administration. In all its work it employs a wide range of theoretical and methodological approaches to its research subjects.
