Outlook
INEF has recently submitted a number of successful applications for funding within the framework of international cooperative research projects sponsored by the European Union. Over the medium term INEF intends to further expand its participation in international research projects. Two thematic areas in which INEF has established itself nationally – and increasingly internationally as well – as a leading research institute will be at the centre of this research: the topic of fragile statehood with an inward view to the internal governmental structures of the states in question and with an outward view to the international implications of this situation. INEF is currently elaborating a project in this area in cooperation with the Australian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (ACPACS) in Brisbane, and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in London. A second thematic area in which the Institute intends to expand its activities is the question of the contribution to be made by private stakeholders to global policy processes (Global Governance). This subject is of importance not only because of the new forms of governance we can witness here, but also because we do not know how effective these processes are and what results will be produced.
