Transfer and Sustainability
IUTA’s core task is the transfer between basic research and industrial practice. The Institute currently cooperates with around 150 university chairs and research institutes as well as with more than 360 companies from many industries.
In addition, the Institute is integrated into various regional, national and international networks. As a member of the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF), IUTA initiates and organises Industrial Collective Research (Industrielle Gemeinschaftsforschung, IGF) projects in the field of energy and environmental technology. As a founding member of the Johannes Rau Research Foundation (JRF), IUTA is also an important part of the research community of the state of NRW.
For the transfer of knowledge, the Institute organises a large number of meetings of project-accompanying committees and seminars, e.g. within the framework of AiF IGF projects. The IUTA Days, which traditionally take place in November, have a special significance. In 2019, for example, the Filtration, Cytostatics and Analytics Day was attended by more than 400 participants from industry, science and public authorities.
In addition to scientific work, IUTA offers services for all process engineering and analytical questions. The portfolio ranges from feasibility studies, expert opinions and process developments, to metrological support of investigations on IUTA’s own and external plants and contract analyses. Research partners and clients include companies from the chemical industry, the steel industry, plant construction, the manufacture of filters and ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, gas process technology and public-sector clients.
In addition, IUTA performs documentation and information tasks and provides training and further education in the field of energy and environmental technology. This is usually done in close cooperation with authorities, companies, associations and other organisations. IUTA employees are active in numerous committees at local to international level, e.g. the Commission on Air Pollution Control (VDI-KRdL) and various CEN committees at EU level.
