The Research Focus
In the research projects presented in this report aspects of identity, interculturalism, or gender have central significance for the specific problem examined. In academic contexts these ideas originally only differentiate objects of possible epistemological interest. However, researching them is especially important as they concern the self-understanding and other-awareness of individuals, communities, societies and cultures. In discourses in society as a whole, many different political and normative claims and valuations are associated with these termini. By focusing on such key aspects of human culture, academic research in the humanities makes an indispensable contribution to political discourse, upholding a debate about the norms that are to ensure our living together in freedom and diversity based on intersubjectivity and logical facts.
