Medicine
The 31 clinics and 23 institutes of University Hospital Essen are not purely the basis of maximum medical care provision, they are also home to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The shared location on a single campus creates the ideal conditions for research and clinical care to work hand in hand and benefit directly from new findings. Research at the Faculty of Medicine is concentrated on the scientific and clinical core areas of Cardiovascular Medicine, Oncology and Transplantation and on the broader themes of Genetic Medicine, Immunology and Infectiology. These concentrations have become established and consolidated through interdisciplinary basic research and clinical science in numerous research collaborations.
Joint research projects with other UDE faculties and cooperation with institutions at home and abroad complete the picture. This orientation and the excellent quality of all the other specialist disciplines have helped place the Faculty of Medicine in a leading position for scientific publications in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
