Humanities
The Faculty of Humanities on the Essen Campus covers the following studies and subjects: Anglophone Studies, German as a Second or Foreign Language, German Studies, History, Communication Science, Science and Theory of Art, Modern Japanese Studies (soon to be phased out), Dutch Studies, Philosophy, Romance Studies (French and Spanish Studies), Protestant and Catholic Theology and Turkish Studies, with Geography joining the Faculty in October 2010. While the diversity of these fields of study reflects the wide range of research within the Faculty, they all share a common interest in understanding and explaining cultures and the belief that (self-)reflection is an essential part of any human society.
