Institute of East Asian Studies
Scholars at the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) conduct research on the societies and economies of East Asia. Since it was founded in 1994, IN-EAST, the largest university institute devoted to contemporary East Asian research in the German-speaking countries, has built up an impressive reputation through its interdisciplinary studies on economics, politics, society, geography, history and culture.
Some 30 scholars at IN-EAST research topics of intense current interest, with special attention to China, Japan and Korea. With the new research focus on "Risk and East Asia", which since 2009 includes a Research Training Group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), and its research-oriented Master programme, IN-EAST is establishing a close link between research and teaching.
