The Biomedical Sciences Main Research Area at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) unites basic research in the natural and engineering sciences on its Essen and Duisburg campuses with applied medical research at University Hospital Essen. It comprises the Centre for Medical Biotechnology (ZMB), the joint research initiative for Research in the Biomedical Sciences (RIBS) and, since 2009, the Erwin L. Hahn Institute for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
