Mercator School of Management
When the faculty was founded as part ofthe former polytechnic university of Duisburg, its approach was very practice-oriented. Overthe past 30 years, however, it has transformeditself into a research-active faculty. In additionto the collaborations and projects with business and industry inherent to an applied science, excellent publications and challenging externally funded research are very much part of the current MSM agenda. In relation to its historical development and size, the faculty has achieved some outstanding results in research rankings in the last few years. Its task now is to consolidate this development into the future.
In the more recent past, the field of Logistics and Traffic has become a major focus of research within the MSM. At the centre of this development are Prof. Alf Kimms chair of the same name and the chairs of the Technology and Operations Management department. These chairs are home to the scientists who form the economic core of the Centre for Logistics & Traffic. The same field also belongs to one of the UDEs main areas ofresearch, “Urban Systems. The MSM aims to continue developing this area while also establishing an additional research focus in the medium term.
