Nanosciences

Nanosciences are a recognized main research area at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Since 2005, the Centre for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen (CeNIDE) has served as an umbrella for these research activities. It is a subject to which, in the main, activities in the natural sciences and engineering sciences contribute. However, various kinds of complementary expertise are also integrated into the dynamic network – from the life sciences, for example. If anything, nanoparticles and nanomaterials, nano-optoelectronics and nanomagnetism have emerged as the focus of this research field. Yet researchers are also taking a closer look at issues relating to the environmental compatibility of nanoparticles and potential damage at the cellular level.
