Empirical Educational Research
From international large-scale assessment studies such as TIMSS (Third International Mathematics and Science Study) and PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), it is common knowledge that the quality of the German educational system lags far behind both national and international expectations. The University of Duisburg-Essen has now bundled its substantial educational expertise to tackle this problem in a main research area on “Empirical Educational Research. Covering the fields of “School (especially “Research on Learning and Instruction), “Further Education (especially “Lifelong Learning), and “Media (especially “Learning with Digital Media), the University is conducting research that is highly visible both nationally and internationally in order to understand and improve educational processes in all age groups.
