Intro

Tiny polymer cups with a volume of just a few attoliters that could one day remove oil residues from water, or the production of high-quality catalyst materials in just one step: At the Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen (CENIDE), which represents the main research area “nanoscience”, basic research and the processing of functional nanomaterials are closely interlinked all the way through to industrial implementation. To this end CENIDE links 75 working groups from the natural and engineering sciences as well as medicine that focus on nanoscale phenomena and materials.

CENIDE is one of the largest research centres for nanosciences in Europe and cooperates closely with national and international academic partners and renowned companies. The unique research building NanoEnergieTechnikZentrum (NETZ) is part of CENIDE and includes facilities for the production of nanomaterials from the gas phase and their further processing as well as the high-tech microscopy centre called the “Interdisciplinary Center for Analytics on the Nanoscale (ICAN)”.
