Future Prospects
Digital transformation is one of the most important challenges facing society today and is a subject of inquiry and teaching in all the faculties at the UDE. Because educational research plays a special role in this context, stronger emphasis is to be placed on “Education in a digital world” as a focus of research. The IZfB will therefore provide the organisational framework for “ForBilD”, a research platform that has been approved under the federal and state government programme to promote young scholars and includes four tenure-track professorships. Two of the junior professors are to be appointed in 2019, and two in 2020. The IZfB is also offering a three-year PhD scholarship in “Education in a digital world”; the scholarship has since been awarded and is scheduled to begin in April 2018 at the latest.
For the start of the summer semester 2018, the IZfB is planning to intensify its postgraduate support by introducing an “Interdisciplinary Educational Research” certificate. This additional qualification will allow doctoral candidates to demonstrate that by taking part in workshops, colloquiums and other research events, they have training in areas of educational research that are not directly connected with their own doctoral projects.
