Research at IN-EAST
IN-EAST conducts research following the Anglo-American concept of discipline-based area studies, applying political, economic and sociological theories and research perspectives in the analysis of contemporary East Asia and its constituent countries and combining them in interdisciplinary projects. Its aim is to contribute to the understanding of developments in the modern societies of East Asia, their international relations and their growing impact in the world. The Institute cooperates with partners across the UDE and beyond, linking social sciences, economics, and humanities as well as the technical and natural sciences in its research projects.
Particular importance is attached at INEAST to ensuring that research and teaching are closely connected. This principle is applied in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes offered by the Institute and with great dedication in its structured postdoctoral and PhD programmes.
