In 2010, the MSM’s increasingly international and strong research performance was reflected in the significant rise in its number of publications in international A+/A journals. Moreover, the DFG is supporting the projects “Revenue Management for Enterprises in Strategic Alliances” and “Cooperative Vehicle Routing Problems with a Rolling Planning Horizon” initiated and led by Professor Alf Kimms; Professor Torsten J. Gerpott is participating in the DFG Collaborative Research Centre SFB 627 “Environment Models for Mobile Context-oriented Systems” with a sub-project entitled “Determinants of Demand of Location-based Services”. The MSM is also represented by Professors Werner Pascha and Markus Taube in the newly founded DFG Research Training Group 1613 “Risk & East Asia”.
Research activities at the MSM were additionally supported in 2010 by around 20 ongoing projects. Outstanding examples include “ProDik – Integrated Productivity Management for Services in SME” (Professor Margret Borchert) and “HyPro – Integrated Strategic Change towards Hybrid Producers” (Professor Gertrud Schmitz), both funded by the BMBF, as well as “Evaluation of the Possible Adoption of International Standards on Auditing (ISA) in the EU” (Professor Annette G. Köhler), which was awarded by the European Commission. Professor Gertrud Schmitz is also participating in the Efficiency Cluster with her sub-project “Integrated CFR-Management in Logistics Networks”.
In 2010, members of the Mercator School of Management hosted three widely noticed conferences at the UDE. Two particularly successful conventions were organised by the Accounting and Finance department: the 14th Bank Symposium “After the Financial Crisis – Banks in a Squeeze” on 29/30 September and the “Outsourcing” expert conference on 14 June. Another key event with prominent professional and academic speakers was the “Catastrophe Management in Urban Regions” workshop, which took place in September 2010.
