Mercator School of Management
In the 30 years since its more application-
oriented founding days as a part of the former comprehensive university of Duisburg, the MSM has constantly been moving in a more research-focused direction. In addition to the regular cooperation and projects with regional companies, the MSM’s main current objectives include excellent publications and challenging third-party funded research. Considering its historical development and resources, the Faculty has achieved outstanding results in research rankings in recent years, and the task now is to consolidate this high-level output.
The field of Logistics and Traffic Management has become a major research focus within the MSM in the most recent past. This is mainly down to the chair of Professor Alf Kimms, who also holds the position of Director of the Centre for Logistics & Traffic (ZLV), and the other chairs of the Technology and Operations Management department. In this context, the MSM also plays a significant role in the larger university research focus of “Urban Systems”. The MSM intends to further strengthen this particular area and – in the medium term – to establish at least one additional research focus.
