Network in East Asia
IN-EAST cooperates in research and training with high-level partners in East Asia such as the University of Tokyo and Renmin University in Beijing. Its network of more than 20 partner universities in East Asia is further strengthened and developed by a very active exchange of students on all levels from BA to PhD.
Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS)
In July 2014, the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) and their respective East Asian Studies units strengthened their close cooperation with the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) in Berlin. MERICS, an independent think tank founded by the Mercator foundation to promote the analysis of political, economic, social, technological and ecological developments in China and their international impact, was simultaneously granted affiliated institute (“An-Institut”) status of both universities. The aim is to coordinate future activities in common areas of interest and unlock research synergies.
EastAsiaNet
IN-EAST has not only built up research networks with renowned partners in East Asia. In Europe, the Institute is actively involved in the EastAsiaNet (www.eastasianet.eu), a forum set up between leading European institutes of contemporary East Asian studies. The members meet at least once a year to exchange the latest research results and initiate new research projects.
