Biologie and Geography
In recent years biology in general and biology at the UDE in particular has advanced at a breathtaking pace. This development has been fuelled by new methods like sequencing and imaging, which allow a depth of biological insight undreamt of only ten years ago. Experiments are now within reach that can generate a complete census of genomes in an ecosystem or locate gene expression patterns in a living organism. A common feature of these experiments is that they produce enormous amounts of data. To exploit the potential of these new methods, learning how to extract biological knowledge from the wealth of data and use it responsibly is essential.
