Awards and Distinctions
At the annual event of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts on 16 May 2018, the dean of the Faculty of Physics, Prof. Michael Schreckenberg, was one of twelve professors to be welcomed as new members.
At the University of Duisburg-Essen’s “Dies Academicus” event in the same year, Dr. Annika Kurzmann of Prof. Dr. Axel Lorke’s research group was awarded one of the University’s dissertation prizes for “Time-resolved transport spectroscopy on single self-assembled quantum dots”.
In 2017 Dr. Joachim Landers (Wende research group) received prize money of € 2,000 for his outstanding dissertation, in which he studied the magnetic behaviour of nanoparticles in deformable media like gel or fluids. Magdulin Dwedari (Energy Science, Wolf research group) was awarded prize money of € 1,000 for academic achievement.
In 2018 Dr. Philipp Stegmann (König research group) received prize money of € 2,000 for his outstanding dissertation. Its title is “Generalized factorial cumulants applied to Coulomb-blockade systems”. Nico Hahn was awarded prize money of € 1,000 for academic achievement.
In 2017 Dr. Boris Weidtmann received the Diversity Prize of the University of Duisburg-Essen in the Diversity Engagement category. He takes care of a “Service-Point” for students to support education in the physics lab course in physics. He shows exceptional commitment in assisting students who often only briefly come into contact with physics in their studies and are required to sit an exam or produce a lab report.
