The Medical Faculty employs over 100 professors and more than 1,500 researchers and provides education and training to around 1,875 students. The shared location of the Faculty and Essen University Hospital on one campus is ideal for creating close connections between research and clinical care so that new insights can be translated into practice without delay.
In research, the Medical Faculty concentrates on its scientific and clinical specialisations Cardiovascular System, Oncology and Transplantation, Immunology and Infectiology, and Translational Neuro- and Behavioral Sciences. Its 33 clinics and 25 institutes conduct research at the highest scientific level and are closely interconnected, with each unit involved in at least one of the main areas of research interest. In terms of publication output, the Medical Faculty is in an outstanding position among the university hospitals in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in relation to its number of professors.
