IWW Water Centre
IWW, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2011, conducts interdisciplinary water research. Its scope ranges from fundamental research to the development of practical applications, with the main focus on applied research, practice-oriented consulting, qualification and knowledge transfer. It works in fields covering the entire water supply chain and ranging from water resources management through water technology, water quality, water distribution networks and applied microbiology to management consulting. Research activities are developed along four strategic research lines:
- Water Resources and Environment
- Water Technology and Assets
- Water Quality and Health, and
- Water Economics and Society.
IWW is involved in research projects funded by public authorities, in connection with the Centre for Water and Environmental Research (ZWU) of the University of Duisburg-Essen, in cooperation with and co-funded by public utilities or industrial partners, and as contract research for individual companies. Scientific excellence is ensured by a scientific directorate made up of members who hold chairs at the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Technical Universities of Dortmund and Darmstadt. The research programme of the IWW is also overseen by an international scientific advisory board.
IWW has a multifunctional technical infrastructure, excellently equipped laboratories, large-scale proving grounds and versatile facilities for pilot plants (such as filters, membrane and corrosion testing units).
