- the Finnish Graduate School of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics Education
- the Dutch Eindhoven School of Education
- the Swedish National Graduate School for Research in Science and Technology Education
- the Norwegian Knowledge in Schools (KiS) research group of the University of Oslo
- the School of Education at Stanford University
- the School of Science and Technology Education (Switzerland)
- the Department of Mathematics and Science Education of the Illinois Institute of Technology (USA)
- the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI), Essen.
The Centre for Empirical Research in Education also initiated a memorandum of understanding with the Science and Mathematics Education Centre at Curtin University of Technology (Australia). In addition to cooperation on various research projects, the memorandum focuses on giving junior researchers (doctoral and postdoc students) the opportunity to research at the respective partner university, where they can discuss their research projects with other working groups and prepare joint publications.
